'ALL AROUND' - 2024:25
For this work in borosilicate glass, I was inspired by the lace collars of the middle ages.
The title refers to the circular, enveloping movement of these historical forms, which adorned the neck like a piece of jewelry.
Like lace, the use of glass rods evokes a sense of lightness and transparency, while reflecting the timeless influence of the past.
In my work at the torch, with the precision of working with borosilicate glass, I find a repetitive rhythm that feels like a mantra.
This rhythm offers me insight and peace in an overwhelming world. Through the repeated actions, I not only create forms but also a meditative process, where the repetition becomes a reflection of the inner calm.

BORROSILICAATGLASS IN CONSTRUCTION
WORK-OUT: STUDIO CHRISTINE VANOPPEN (BE)
This installation shows a construction with fragile bundles of glass-tubes and was designed for the central atrium of a sleek glass architectural structure. It’s an ode to nature in the form of structures catching the light through the glass.
The graphic and woven character make it resemble drawing in space, total transparency in form and material.
The intense looking for and studying of meanings and forms, the experimenting with materials, textures and sizes are clearly present in the work and bring along different confrontations and new encounters.
My work captures a personal yet universal story of endless search for pure essence.

SANDBLASTING ON MIRROR GLASS
WORK-OUT: STUDIO CHRISTINE VANOPPEN AND STUDIO LUC DE BRUYNE (BE)
The mirrored column offers a wealth of perspectives. The lines on the reflective surface stylize reality, drawing your gaze towards the surrounding nature and creating a dialogue with the architecture. Each side of the work illuminates the four surrounding spaces.
The piece almost becomes invisible, bending seamlessly into the natural environment, constantly changing its appearance with the rhythm of the seasons.

'INGEWIKKELD'- 2012
TECHNIQUE: WORKING AT THE TOURCH WITH BOROSILICATE GLASS.
WORK-OUT: STUDIO CHRISTINE VANOPPEN
The titel of this series of works is ‘Ingewikkeld’, which refers both to something complex, not easily understood, or to a ‘wrap’ used to heal a wound or fracture.
Glass as a material is both resistant and fragile, highly sensitive to tension. While I aim to reveal these characteristics, paradoxically, this requires a highly controlled and organized approach.
It is this combination of control, tension, sensitivity, and emotion that defines my work.
I have a deep fascination with technique, but also with the profoundly human element that is interwoven throughout my creations.

'TRAPPED' - 2009
TECHNIQUE: GLASS BLOWING IN METAL MESH STRUCTURE.
WORK-OUT: ATELIER 74-LUC DE BRUYNE
GLAZEN HUIS LOMMEL WITH GERT BULLE & FREDERICK VAN OVERSCHELDE
The cocoon shape is a regularly recurring element in my work. It its a form with a dual meaning: on the one hand, holding, saving or hiding, and on the other hand, the fact that a new and completely different life comes from every cocoon. The shape can be open or closed. Cocoons carry all those contradictions, including the inherent properties of the material itself (strong-weak, transparent-opaque, dangerous-non-dangerous). The layered aspect and ambiguous meaning also play an essential role in all these works. It’s not just about the visual image and structure, but also the feelings conveyed. You can experience the glass blown in a net as an encapsulated form with an enclosure, that is safely stored away. But also as a form that is locked up or tied up.
Protection, in the event of danger: jamming-protecting, safety-hazard, and hiding-locking.

'BOUND' - 2008
TECHNIQUE: GLASS BRANCHES PULLED IN THE HOT SHOP.
WORK-OUT: GLAZEN HUIS LOMMEL, IN COLLABORATION WITH GERT BULLE AND ATELIER LUC DE BRUYNE
In these works, bundles of tied-together wooden and glazed glass branches are featured, with key theme such as safety, protection, cohesion, and construction playing an important role. This results in sculptural forms with glazed branches.
The search for and exploration of meanings and shapes, along with experimentation with materials, textures, and sizes, are essential to achieving the final result.
